Gratitude in Action: Crafting Your Daily Blessings

These last few months have been overflowing with reasons to be grateful. My heart swelled celebrating another year with my incredible wife Lynlie and having baby Elle join our world has added a whole new layer of joy to our lives! Plus, DJC has continued to grow immensely alongside some amazing people and organizations!

Sure, the holidays nudge us toward appreciation (which is great!), but I'm a firm believer in seeking out ways to express gratitude every single day. As this season unfolds, I strongly suggest looking back on this past year and counting your blessings (big and small) regardless of whether you've had a gratitude practice before or not.

Let's dive into exploring different ways to craft a gratitude routine that truly sticks as we step into 2024. And hey, I'm not saying you should do all of these, but why not try a few on for size and see what resonates?

Gratitude Journaling

Put pen to paper using the gratitude journal method. Each day, jot down a few things you're thankful for - it could be a beautiful sunset, a kind word from a friend, or a simple moment of peace. The act of writing reinforces positive thoughts and can shift focus from negativity to appreciation. I usually do this first thing in the morning when our minds tend to get the best of us. The folks at Love Your Brain gifted me The Five Minute Journal! I'll be starting that this week.

Mindful Reflection

Take a moment each day for mindful contemplation by reflecting on events of the day, acknowledging moments that brought joy, taught a lesson, or offered unexpected blessings. Mindfulness enhances our awareness of the present and helps us savor positive experiences.

Gratitude Notes

Send the text, write the email, or make the call! Expressing gratitude directly to someone can be incredibly powerful. It could be a mentor, a family member, or a friend. Not only does this practice deepen connections, but I promise it will not only make their day but yours as well.

Gratitude Walks or Meditations

For those with a kick of energy, combine physical activity or meditation with gratitude by taking a 'gratitude walk.' During this time, focus on the beauty around you—nature, architecture, or even the kindness of strangers. This may sound silly but it's a fantastic way to slow down and appreciate the little things.

Random Acts of Kindness

Engage in acts of kindness for others without expecting anything in return. These acts can be as small as holding the door for someone or as significant as volunteering. Being of service to others can cultivate a deep sense of appreciation for what we have.

Have other ideas or practices that have worked for you? I would love to share them with the DJC community throughout this upcoming year!

Send me a DM on Instagram or an email here with your thoughts!

Wishing everyone a safe holiday season!

Keep Rockin',

Dave
